Hi! Erika here. I’m the one-woman dyer-worker bee behind this small-time business. I live and dye out of my kitchen in Des Moines, Iowa.

In school, my two loves were always English and art. I majored in both (as well as French) at the University of Iowa, knowing I didn’t want to be a teacher but otherwise not knowing what I’d ultimately do for my career. Five years out of college I was hired as a copy editor at a major magazine publishing company—pretty much a dream job for this introverted, grammar-loving soul. It remains my full-time day job, and I still absolutely love it!

Art was something I explored casually in my own time, but never seriously. A little drawing here, a little daydreaming about one day owning a pottery wheel there. Until I decided, in 2016, to give yarn dyeing a try. This new hobby roughly coincided with my getting REALLY into knitting and discovering higher-quality yarns and patterns, and it quickly developed into more than casual experimentation.

Yarn, as a canvas, rewards me more than paper and panels and sketchbooks ever did. I love the experimentation stage, turning a vague vision in my head into a tangible, multicolor colorway. And then I love the pure, tactile repetition of steps to produce more of the same work. I send each of my skeins out into the world with the same thrill that they’re destined to be crafted into more than the sum of their parts.

I hope you find something here that you love and that, in working with it, it gives you as much joy as I found in dyeing it.

Happy creating!

Erika
